Emmys Highlights: Colbert, Big Little Lies & Historical Wins
Stephen Colbert hosted the Emmys last night. The Handmaids Tale and Big Little Lies were bigger winners with 5 each. Alec Baldwin won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his Trump impersonation on Saturday Night Live. During his acceptance speech, he said “at long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy” – a nod to Trump’s past complaints about never winning for the Apprentice. Julia Louis Dreyfus made history last night, becoming the first person, male or female, to win 6 years in a row playing the same character. She won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role on VEEP. Donald Glover made history for being the first-ever black director to win Best Directing in a Comedy Series. Riz Ahmed became the first South Asian man to win an acting Emmy. Lena Waithe became the first African American woman to win for comedy writing. There’s an impressive list of historical firsts here so I suggest you check it out!

“It” Slays JLaw’s New Movie Mother
The movie It brought in another $60M in its second week, while Jennifer Lawrence’s new movie Mother debuted to only $7.5M. It’s the worst opening for a Jennifer Lawrence movie and joins only a handful of other movies that have ever been given an F CinemaScore rating.

Kevin Hart Apologizes for Cheating
Kevin Hart apologized to his wife, his kids and his fans this weekend. He is embroiled in an extortion attempt… a woman has a video of him cheating on his wife, who is pregnant. She is pretty vocal, she wants to expose him as a liar and a cheater, and she wants cold hard cash…up to $10M, in fact. She also claims that he started his Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge right after he found out that she was shopping the video, in an attempt to make himself look good.

SNL Writer Loses Emmys Tux, Finds it with Competitor
This is a great story. A writer for SNL flew from NY to Los Angeles this weekend to go to the Emmys… but he grabbed the wrong garment bag as he got off the plane, so he had the wrong tux and someone else had his. The SNL writer figured out that the other guy was also going to the Emmys… so he took to twitter to spread the word and try to find the guy so they could switch tuxes. Low and behold, he found him – and it turns out the guy was nominated IN THE SAME CATEGORY as the SNL writer. (BAHAHAHA)

Fun fact: neither of them won – Last Week Tonight with John Oliver did.

Demi Talks Sexuality
Demi Lovato was asked why she doesn’t talk about her sexuality — there were rumors last week that she is dating a girl — and she made it really clear: everyone’s looking for a sound bite, and she wants to tell her story on her own terms. Demi says that her sexuality doesn’t have anything to do with her music so she doesn’t offer up those conversations in interviews, but she will be talking about it in her new documentary. It’s set to premiere via YouTube on October 12th.
